Ocean - Too Big?

When at Ravensbourne today, Tom and I attempted to add an Ocean to the combined work of, Simon, Tom, and I. We came across a MAJOR problem which I am currently trying to undo. This was that the Ocean plane was far too small (the gravity was too small as well however it seemed to be fixed by turning it up a great deal). We don't want to lose the quality of the ocean (it turns to little white dots reflecting) so we plan to have a play about with it at another time as well as e-mailing Alex Hulse to see if he has any special words of wisdom that can fix our dilemma (without starting again). Other alternative I can only think of is shrinking everything down so that its approximately 1000 times smaller. Anyway...for now we shall keep trying to solve this problem!

Rust Texture Test

Just a couple of basic textures I've put together from photos I have. This floor is not going to stay like this as I plan to add variation - at the moment it looks too repetative. Just to stimulate my imagination I put it in place and it will hopefully spark off more ideas that I can use in the development of this piece. The Rust Texture is not permanent either. I plan to work on the texture a little bit and take away the line down the middle. I'll do this in photoshop.

Water Bath Test

Not too sure about this water I've created as it is before I've looked at any tutorials... I think I shall have a look around on the net before I settle on it.... It'll do for now so I know where its going. I did this in about 5 - 10 minutes so thats why its just a simple 3D fluid container with a ramp shader.

On review of this image...water needs to be more transparent and maybe a drip going into it? Just an idea to work up to. Drips are possible through the Visor. Also I would like to develop the water bath a little bit with some better modelling involved rather than just ... the very flat looking object it is at the moment. Possible crack on the top somewhere to make it look older and a bit more worn.

Depth of Field

Just beginning to play with the depth of field now. Oh and guys the arches are easily deleteable if anyone wants to get rid or alter just say the word.  Been trying to do the chains from post to post however it's proving more difficult than I thought it would be.  I tried using dynamics - active and soft rigid bodies but I didnt really know what I was doing.  Will try again another day.

Barcelona - The Sketchbook

Just a little bit of Gaudi

Of course we had to take in a little bit of the man of Barcelona - Gaudi.  Antonio Gaudi worked on a variety of different thinks in his life but is most likely known for his 'pointy buildings' aka his architecture.  His work was a piece of art.  Each building he designed was based around organic forms that can be seen in the everyday world.  Twisting like a vine around the sky the building is reaching up as if for sun light.  Inside of the building itself it seemed as though we were travelling through a large corpse of a skeleton.  A bone structure seemed to be on show - however it was taken from a piece of string falling in the center due to gravity and then this was flipped upside down and a flat plane put underneath for a walkway! Brilliant or totally insane - either way he caught the publics eye with his wacky ideas.

On the Train - A number of different characters got on and off the train while we were traveling around.  Here's just a few of the sketches I did while observing the outside world inside a train.

100% Stationary - This was while I was taking in the square outside of our window.  Great view of a number of things such as a fountain in the middle and at different times of the day different people.   At night you get offered a free drink from here there and everywhere and guys offering you any drug you can think of...and during the day you get the ever so polite people wanting you to come into their restaurant and eat and after you tell them for about the third time your not interested I think they get the idea.  Any way... these images are drawn whilst looking out of our bedroom window.

Monserrat Cathedral

The Cathedral we visited was outstanding.  so many people took pictures, disregarding the big far NO CAMERA sign, both written and in picture format but personally I couldn't do that... not that I'm religious but simply because I believe in what's right and wrong - Strong morals or something.  When I got in there first of all I had to grab a seat.  The shear spectacle of a building so beautifully decorated and sculpted deserved some of my time.  I sat, Sarah and Matt followed.  Immediately they whipped out the sketchbook but I sat for just a moment where I was taking it all in - observing once again.  After a while I did joined the other two and got cracking on those drawings that can be seen there.  The time allotted to us really didn't let us do justice to the building in any way.  Such a shame but at least I got to visit it which is more to be said than the majority of our group as they all decided to head up the mountain in an attempt to find something else... or ... I don't even know where they went!! Perhaps they thought the Cathedral was further up... who knows!? Either way I'm glad I went to explore and didn't miss out on such an opportunity.  :D

Best Of Barcelona Structures

Over all I think these look kinda cool. Hope that I can create them in maya and make the textures do the models justice. Will enjoy modelling them I'm sure...Plus I have another idea to pitch to the guys about my archways.

Some of them will play a bigger and more important than the other ones. I'd quite like to put in Arch ways with a shelter in....even if it is a few bits of cloth... maybe fake cloth to save on Rendering time. I like the idea of having a water Bath.... so I will be making that soon.
