You Tube Mist Clip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4C0P6QogclI

Hoping we can do better than this. Put up for reference and how NOT to finish it off. Textures very plain and repeated over and over.... if we are in need of a repeated texture maybe make a few varieties in photoshop so it doesn't look 'samey' (example when the very FLOATY (aka poorly shot) camera gets into the ruins for the first time. Shall try and play about with textures over the next few days... see if i can get some animation in the mist as well.... will be new grounds so may take a while but shall start soon.

Research: Images

1st Week Review

At the start of the day I was slightly worried about was the lack of any story Authentic had as I figured having a man walking through a street/dock wouldn't suffice for a story line as at first it seemed a bit... I don't know.... plain...nothing would really make people go ooo thats cool - However Simon did manage to turn my head around by saying that the project is about the digital environment.  Convincing me with this he made me think about how many things we could put into our - Tudor-esq dock.
If there are problems about the story line... well.... we're only really in the inital stages of the project and I know that our Tutor - Jared Taylor - can talk to us about this later on in the project once we've done a bit more research + we have a few ideas about what our character can do on his walk anyway.

Weekend Sum Up:
So far we've managed to:
Settle within our group.
Decide on an idea.
Decide on different roles we will be having for the week ahead.
Research different areas within our idea.
Begin to devlop the idea to a small extent in terms of character and interaction.

Friday 10th October

So we settled on our idea of Medieval Dockland area with crates, barrels - rats
maybe? we'll see if we have time.  One issue that has arised today amongst the gr
oup is how much detail is going to be involved within the character (are we going to have one main character with all the detail and everyone else just a simple 'manikin' model or a downloaded model?)  This is still undecided but I'm glad we have an idea which we all seem to be happy with.  Tom seems to be looking into boats which is cool and Simon is continueing to do drawings I believe.  Alec is making things in Maya and Max which is great.  I believe I'm going to keep going with the research and come up with a few more ideas as well as a drawing or two and maybe a bit of Maya also.  I'd like to produce a couple of designs for Characters as well but I don't believe I'll have time this weekend - possibly next week.
We all went away and did a bit of research over the last few days which has helped us understand what style we all like and what we want to aim for.  I think the original idea came from Fabel II which is a Computer Game.  We have decided to set the scene in a night environment to make it a lil bit spooky and a little bit more interesting... fog, glow around the flickering flames in the laterns....swinging lanterns.... we have high hopes but we'll see how it goes!!! I know that all four of us have got great things in mind its just a matter of putting them all down on paper and making it the best we possibly can in the time allotted.  Hope its guna be GOOD!

Tuesday 6th October (Pre-Blog)

Tuesday we recieved a brief from Jared Taylor. After going through the brief and discussing possible ideas we could do I found that I liked Simon Harveys original idea he had over summer. His drawing he has done convinced Alec, Tom Stocker-Wright and I. I believe we have a good team here and am happy with it. Team AUTHENTIC have been created.
Together we talked about time periods and locations we could possibly use. Initially we spoke about doing a number of different ideas rammed into one scene but they were very different to one another which was our main concern. After speaking with Jared towards the end of the day we settled on Simons 'Medieval' style drawing.
Speaking and developing our ideas we have come up with a route to take. Tudor housing and old lighting (eg candle lit streetlamps etc)

We brainstormed what we could have at a dockyard (we settled on a Character walking along a dock). So far come up with
1. Fruit seller
2. Hobo's round fire
3. Crates
4. Luggage
5. Lamp Posts.
6. Signs
7. Old Boats

We arranged to meet on Friday 10th to set up the blog and discuss developments in our project.
